“At least you answered the phone!”

Those were the words we heard when a homeowner called seeking service on her Generac generator. This homeowner had purchased her generator from another company and needed service. She reported that she had called several Generac dealers, but no one answered the phone. She left messages, but no one would return her call. Then she found us.

Our account manager answered her call, listened to her plight, and politely responded, “We will be glad to provide service, but we don’t do warranty work on Generac generators.” Her response: “At least you answered the phone. In addition, we see unsafe installation issues, such as failure to follow the manufacturer’s installation criteria with respect to minimum clearances, including being within 5 feet of a window (risk of carbon monoxide) or having exhaust blowing into an obstruction (side of the home or AC) within 5 feet, resulting in the generator not being able to exhaust properly and running too hot (risk of destroying your generator and potential fire). When a warranty issue occurs, the manufacturer typically requires pictures of the installation, and upon review, the warranty repair will not be approved because of improper installation.
