Quality & Reliability vs. Uncertainty in a Georgia Generator – Your Choice
Be Careful When Choosing Your Brand of Generator & the Team Who Installs It Outside Your Georgia Home

There is a misguided belief that there are more dealers for “the other brand” and so greater access for service when something goes wrong. The truth is: Not all generator dealers have the same qualifications. In addition, it’s been stated that replacement parts are cheaper for “the other brand”, therefore it will cost less to maintain. When you purchase a quality generator with a solid warranty, replacement parts should not be an immediate concern. Both scenarios suggest a lack of confidence in the performance of the generator, and neither represent sound logic for making a decision to purchase. At GenSpring Power, we take great pride in representing what we consider to be the two highest quality and most reliable home generators in the market today - Briggs & Stratton and Kohler. We can state this with confidence, having been in business for 23 years, and sold/serviced thousands of generators. As I have said many times, we can sell anything, but we choose to sell the best.
Why take a chance with a sub-standard generator & an inexperienced generator supplier?
The right questions to ask when considering the purchase of a home generator system are as follows:
- Are generators their primary business, or is this just a sideline? Some electricians and air-conditioning companies have gravitated to generators as an additional revenue stream – most are not equipped for servicing what they sell.
- How long have they been in the generator business? It takes time to build a successful company in the generator industry. Anyone who has not been in business for at least 2 - 3 years should be suspect.
- What brands do they sell, stock, and why? A dealer carrying a single brand could indicate a lack of knowledge in the industry or credit worthiness.
- Are there employees dedicated to the installation and servicing of generators and are installation personnel licensed in electric and gas? Some dealers are not licensed in electric and gas, and rely on subcontractors. There may not be anything wrong with that, but you should inquire and require documentation.
- What service and training certifications do their personnel hold? A professional company will have multiple personnel on staff certified to perform service work.
- Will they come to your home and conduct a thorough analysis of your needs? Anyone who will not come to your home and conduct a thorough analysis of your needs should be immediately removed from your consideration.
- Should you expect to pay a deposit? Yes, it is customary to pay a deposit. Anything larger than 25%, however, is a red flag, indicating that the company may be undercapitalized and therefore suspect.
Longevity and reliability of a generator starts with a quality product, sized correctly for the application, installed according to the manufacturer’s guidelines, and with a skilled full service company to back it up. We check all the boxes.
