Will hurricanes be bad in 2025? The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration predicts a challenging season of storm activity

In late May, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released a
report on the upcoming Atlantic hurricane season. With an above-normal prediction for hurricane activity from June through November, it can be frightening to think about how you’ll make it through another dramatic summer and fall of serious weather. Even though the idea of a more active hurricane season is nerve-wracking, it’s important to remember these are only predictions and there is only a 60% chance of an above-normal season. There is a 30% chance the hurricane season will be typical, and a 10% chance there may be fewer hurricanes this year. How did these predictions come about?

How does the NOAA determine if Georgia wil face an above-average number of hurricanes in 2025?

These predictions, performed by the experts at the NOAA, are based on several different factors. They utilize models and tracking systems to test possibilities of seasonal hurricanes, and look at weather patterns and ocean water temperatures across the globe to determine how these will impact the American Atlantic coast and Gulf of Mexico. In particular, they focus on the West African Monsoon and its wave patterns, a primary starting point for many Atlantic hurricanes. The NOAA also monitors the Atlantic Basin, where high heat ocean content and lower trade winds can also impact the possibility and strength of hurricanes. Thanks to the modern technology and reports meteorologists have access to today, the NOAA is making it easier for you to track storms tomorrow.

With these tracking tools and models, the NOAA has determined that we could be dealing with a dangerous hurricane and tropical storm season in 2025. The most important thing we can do now is prepare. Hurricanes and tropical storms may move and shift erratically, but if you are prepared for the worst before the storm strikes, you can feel safer staying in your own home this hurricane season.
